Do you know what makes a good survival knife? Do you know what to look for and why? This article will go through what you should be looking for when you choose a survival knife for your wilderness survival kit.
Why do you need to carry a survival knife when you go into the wilderness? A survival knife can be used to cut parachute cord, create tinder by splitting wood, create a spear by lashing the knife to a stick, preparing any food you have brought or caught, plus a whole host of other uses.
The best survival knife is constructed of one piece of metal, to which there may be slabs of material attached to form a comfortable handle. This does not include folding pocket knives. This kind of construction is known in the knife world as "full tang" or "narrow tang". A good survival knife will include a relatively heavy blade with a total thickness of around 3/16 of an inch and a blade length of about 5 inches. You don't need a "Rambo" knife as it may look nice but it will be heavy to carry.
